Only the Kenwood was stealthier. Could be bum drive. If you can run the cd manually, then the autorun function is hanging it up.
Any test we threw at the unit that involved random accesses caused the drive to either fail completely or perform extremely poorly. May need to restore a previous registry.

The cd rom drive is a sound blaster -Creative-cde. Can you put a bootable cd Win98, etc and set your crsative to boot from cd first, then your other drives.

While the 72X has what looks like a digital audio-out next to the standard analog out, it is not functional. Windows should re-detect your hardware. However, like the Kenwood, the Toshiba had what looked like a digital audio-out connector that did not work. You could also try booting into Safe Mode, then look in Device Manager for duplicate device information. Also impressive were its heat levels. When did it work? Because CD-ROM drives are seldom, if ever stressed as extensively and consistently as the access time loop I run the drives through when checking for noise and heat levels, it is highly unlikely that heat would ever be a concern during normal usage.
